I use a travel kettle, it takes a bit longer than a domestic kettle to boil but are you worried about a minute or two when you are on holiday?

I tend to boil mine before I need it then when I am ready to make a pot of tea it just needs reheating which does not take long.

Aldi are doing a Travel Kettle next Thursday £9.99 rated at 1500watt so 6amp ish. which is quite EHU friendly, and will boil a lot quicker than your usual Travel kettle.

What about a hob kettle? We have had the same one for 10 years - think we got in in ikea and you can put as much or as little in it as you like and it is really quick to boil with no worries about ehu. we had it when camping and had the most basic one ring burner and now we use it in the van. smaller to pack really than an electric one. just a thought!

ooohh im thinking about getting one of these now as sometimes im goin ehu and sometimes not and these state you can use them on electric hob and gas. which one do you have ltinker?

anyone else got these and is aluminium or stainless steel best- can you use both materials on either hobs (gas/ electric), anyone know how long they take to boil?

many thanks

I must say that I have been surprised that people go to such lengths to find a leccy kettle! As I said, ours is now at least 11 years old and still going strong.
This one on amazon looks nice and is cheapish - sorry cant do link but copy this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/2-5-Litre-Whistling-kettle-Folding/dp/B003FIPDTC/ref=sr_1_9?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1336723202&sr=1-9

would think the folding handle would help with packing. important to have a whistle as you dont want to forget about it, aluminium lighter than steel?
Takes very little time to boil - would use one at home but just used to flicking the switch now, but in the 'van can't be bothered with plugging in cos the cables always seem to short and I worry about it being pulled off or if on the floor being knocked over.

good luck hope you find one you like!
