Can anyone suggest the best way to deal with my 1 year old whilst camping for feeding - dont really want to have to buy a new foldable highchair to take with us (yet another thing to find room for in the car!) any other suggestions?

I used to use the buggy. I just made sure I kept both baby and buggy covered.

Ours just crawls around whilst we try and feed her with the dog mopping up any spillages!

We have one of these http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40140046/ at home which we take with the grandson when we go camping.  The legs detach easily, being held in place by spring clips and it is easy to clean.

We have the same Ikea high chair as the one Dandyman Bob mentioned.

It is wonderful

We used a folding booster seat that had a table that slipped on. It was fab as we could use it as a booster seat for the table at home when she grew out of her high chair but was still a bit to small to see over the table properly to eat. folded quite flat and didn't take up too much room in the car. Usually get them quit cheap when supermarkets do baby events

Hi,
Depending on where you are going, do a search on web for company who hire out prams, high chairs etc in the area you are staying, it is surprising what you find. We travel down to Cornwal,Devon, Dorset from west coast of scotland and as you can imagine space is tight. Our little boy is now nearly 4 so not a problem now but it was great to not have to worry about these things.

We have used both the Ikea high chair (a fantastic bit of kit - especially considering the price!) and also a folding booster, similar to the one linked to, above.

Each were fine, to be honest. Our kids were particularly messy eaters, so we avoided using the pram (although we are sling / baby carrier people, so most of the time the buggy stayed at home in favour of a Macpac Vamoose or (our favourite) a Beco carrier).

We have a 2yo and a 6mo. The 2yo has a plate of finger food on a table and he comes over and grazes as he likes. The 6mo will be parked on a picnic blanket with a towel around her and get handed pieces of finger food one at a time (although to be fair she's only just starting solid food so I doubt she'll actually eat much).

Thanks everyone - I think I may just stick to using the pushchair and try and avoid very messy food!!! we do have a booster seat at home but just worried how it will be secured to our camping chairs.  I think we will just have to make do - just praying for dry weather as will be a nightmare with him crawling around in the mud otherwise!

Does anyone have any experience in using baby sleeping bags? worried if we get one he will slide down and be dangerous - he is only one so think we should just maybe layer him up and as does move around alot when he sleeps.  We did this last year but he was only 4 months then so alot easier.

We've always used the all-in-one fleece suits for little ones to sleep in. We have also got a fleece sleeping bag which we fold under so's it's not too long. We also use a couple of roll mats underneath, and a Kampa kids inflatable which has 'sides' on it.

It was cold last weekend but her ladyship (now nearly 3) wasn't!

CherylF consider a Silly Billyz messy eater bib (it has sleeves and goes down to their knees). We call it the biohazard bib. They are really easy to wash, quick drying (usually just shake clean anyway) and really stop mess from getting on clothes or whatever they're sitting on.

is there a way you could attach a set of reins in a normal camping chair to secure baby onto it, Most can be used with D ring attachments to fit. If it was a cheap chair you could even cut slits in the back so you could secure with shoulder straps too.
