HI All,
Anyone recommend a Electric Heater for Tents?
Looking for one that will be efficient to heat up an Outwell Vermont XL?

Cheers

Jamie

Hi, We have a little 2kw heater from Argos, sits under the TV camping unit (with enough ventilation) and gives out sufficient heat for all our tents, the biggest being a Maryland XL. Didn't cost much at all and has 3 heat and 3 fan settings. We stayed away from a halogen one as we have a 2 year old and were worried he may be attracted to the glow!

IMHO, the power output of the heater should not exceed 2kW at its highest setting.

I do not believe a fan heater with this output can sufficiently heat up a big tent in its entirety.

However, it should be sufficient to heat up the living area, or the sleeping area (if it is opened up into one big sleeping area), one at a time.

I could be wrong, however, that's what I found when I went camping in Dec and Feb.

I initially thought this was a seed thread meant as a wind-up but clearly not.

I cannot believe that anyone would have such wanton disregard for the environment as to use an artificial heat source to heat a TENT

The only heat source that should be used in a tent is the HomoSapien 0.5kW. The more you use, the warmer it will be.

You are camping and it's a Tent.

Astonishing!

I totally agree...

In fact isn't using a tent cheating, shouldn't we all just use a sleeping bag under a tarp?

Actually, let's get back to basics and lie shivering in a cave, inventing rudimentary tools.

Why wear lots of layers of clothing made out of synthetic materials in order to keep warm?

Why not wear animal skins like our ancestors used to wear, live in a cave, and burn woods and fossil fuel, hunt, kill and forage for food in order to survive?!

We use a Dimplex 2kw fan heater in our Bear Lake 6 which keeps it cosy. Then we run a 2kw oil filled radiator over night when it's very cold (quieter than a fan!)

Ah but trolls have fur don't they? And I doubt that pitch under the bridge would have EHU?

If the electricity to run the electric heater is produced sustainably then why is that a bad thing?

Hi Thanks for your input, however if we are so concerned ref the environment issue regards Electric heaters we have to look at our own carbon footprint driving to the Campsites? I am a very hardy person and an ex Para. I am just looking out for the rest of my Family whilst out in the outdoors.. Sometimes environmentalists go a little to far........

Hi thanks very much for the info.
It is very much appreciated.
A lot more welcome than some of these so called do gooders environmentalists who clearly are hypocrites.
Cheers

rockhuggerjamie - well said!

Some people should either take more water with it or just not bother in the first place then they might not wake up so grumpy on a Sunday morning eh?
