Love mine.   Sadly it got dropped so now have to be careful when moving it, but as soon as finances allow I am going to replace it.
On holiday it is in almost daily use - we do baked spuds most days.   Best baked spuds ever. I have done roasts (but haven't mastered veg yet).   We often get one of those little gammon joints in their own foil tray which we find an ideal size for the four of us.

A couple of years ago, we picked up some steak, which was fairly tough - as we had bought a lot of it, the next night, instead of simply BBQing it I wrapped the pieces up in foil, with butter and seasoning, and "oven" cooked them in the Cobb - what a difference.

I have been meaning to get more adventurous, but our camping trips have been somewhat limited over the past few years - but I am going to try different things. Going to experiment at home.

I know there are links to Cobb recipe sites, but not sure where.   If you search on Camping Under Canvas, or Camping Equipment you will find lots of threads on the Cobb.

Yes I have one, and I would thoroughly recommend. For me it means no gas, so portable and the ability to cook a whole meal under one lid.

It can cook in a variety of ways giving lots of different results. The beads last a long time often can cook more than one meal with one lot of beads.

It is often compared with the Cadac whose owners will insist that is better. But for me just the fact it can be taken anywhere (With adequate ventilation) is a big plus.

we have one and it's the best bit of kit we have.  We cook the best ever jacket potatoes on it (yum yum), also cooked chicken, beef, lamb, gammon, pork, again gorgeous.  I also use it at home to cook casseroles using glass dishes as I would in the oven.  We cook the usual cooked breakfast, curries, stir fries, spag bol etc I've also tried baking bread on it but it got stuck to the top of the lid so may have to half the size of the loaf.  We've never eaten soooo good whilst camping since we bought the Cobb.  Well worth the money imho

oh that all looks gorgeous.  We have a cadac and do like it but the Cobb seems far more versatile.  Is it a very heavy piece of kit?

Sold mine recently on Ebay for bargain price, hope my buyer has more luck than me.

Just a Cobb and an Icey-Tek and I'll have everything I want camping-wise.

We got one a couple of weeks ago from a local shop.

First thing we tried was a whole chicken with three foil wrapped spuds all of which came out good.

Then we tried pizza which also came out good could have done with browning a bit more).

So far thats all due to the weather but its a thumbs up fro us for a bit more diversity when away camping.

Cheers,

David

I'm thinking of giving the Cobb a go too there does seem to be a lot of options and accessories, can anyone advise what's essential, what's worth having and what's a waste of money?  Here's a link to the Cobb site with all various sets listed.

I see the COBB as an optional extra.....but a good extra to have. I don't see mine as a replacement for my gas burners and so only use it as an oven. But it does mean that you have the option of a greater variety of meals and, although not quick, it does help create delicious meals.

I bought the set that came with everything. I have since got the wooden board, the extension and the utensils. I can honestly say I have used every part. Out of them all I think the roasting rack gets used most and griddle least as we don't tend to have whole pieces of meat. The large frying dish also isn't used as frequently mainly due to the fact there are 6 of us so I will use a large pan on the gas instead.

The board has been great for cutting meat but also somewhere to put the lid. The utensils, whilst not necessary, look great and mean I have a set just for the Cobb that have handy storage.

I also bought the full set and we use all of it, some more than others.  I don't use the Cobblestones, just normal briquettes are fine and a lot cheaper.  I think with all the kit in the bag it's quite big but not too heavy (I can carry it even with my bad hands).  Our Cadac which we bought before the Cobb has been gathering dust in the shed since getting the Cobb but hubby won't sell it just in case lol

You can get most bits as spares.  My son broke/melted the plastic top ring and replaced it for an awful lot less than the whole thing.
