Thank you, that's worth knowing! My son (now 15) has the swedish army one and messes about for ages cooking on it, as you say it's all part of the fun and he's never in a hurry either, But if the real burner is so much better, I might just treat him to one.
I was going to get him the trangia as part of a birthday gift, but his father beat me to it with the swedish army version.
------------- Im no cactus expert, but I know a prick when I see one!
I have several army version Trangia stoves, all have the burner as supplied, and the main problem I've had is how to cut down the heat? I only use them to boil water as they burn everything else. I had no luck using the reduction cap either.
As it would cost you nothing but a few minutes in time, you could try using a small drill bit to clean out the holes. There is nothing to wear out, so I can only think that is the cause of the problem.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
I do all our cooking on the trangia and love it. I recently took it to Ikea and tried all of their 365 non stick pans until I got one that is a perfect fit. Now I have a bigger non stick pan and it cooks up a treat
I've had my Trangia since 1985. I keep a safety pin on the strap to clean out the holes of the burner. Its very slow to get going, but then it gets pretty hot. I always use the reduction ring. Its not great with the frying pan on the raised thingies, never gets hot enough
I have a stainless steel version of the Trangia stove made by Outwell, and burnt the food on first use, as the meth burner that came with it did not have a flame control mechanism.
Bought a Trangia meth burner with a sliding cover that enables the flame to be controlled, and I got much better result with it.

I have a Trangia and 2 Clas Ohlsen £10 copies. The Trangia is better as it's non-stick but the cheapies boil water faster (albeit that they go through meths a fair bit quicker!)
Speaking of which, does anyone know of a cheap supplier? I'm paying £15 for 5l at the moment. Is there anywhere does it for less?
