Thanks all, we are just starting out and have nothing, so I think for the time being I will take mine from home and get some camping ones in the future.

We are intending on buying the stove with grill under to start with. Any suggestions or recommendations?

My personal recommendation is to start with the suitcase style stove. They can be purchased quite cheaply (£10 -15) even for the Campingaz Bistro Stove. I have owned both the suitcase and twin burner with grill type stove and to be honest just ended up taking the suitcase stoves as they are easier to pack and work well.

The grill on the twin burner stove is not that great and by the time you add in bottled gas you can easily spend £50+ for the cooker. If you shop around for the canisters for the suitcase stoves they can be just as economical to run as the twin burner and grill.

Aldi have a house hold pan set in at the moment that stacks very neat for £19 .

If car camping is the only way you intend to camp then any pans etc will do i mean we have a 12 ltr cast iron dutch oven and in no way is it a backpacking option . But on the other hand if you only have a small car or just like the idea of space saving then a good set of camping pans will save space and should last a life time

dk168 We have a combination of MSR and Tatonka pans with the loop handle all stack neatly in side each other . We all so have a 2pan Vango set that's 20+ years old been round the world and still working just not big enough for most family meals .

The only down side with buying quality gear is you just end up window shopping

Regarding the stove, we bought the Camping Gaz Camping Chef twin burner with grill and we really like it.  We got it from Go Outdoors last year when they were doing an offer on the stove, regulator and gas bottle - they will no doubt do something similar this year, just keep an eye on their deals
