Hi All,
Had our first weekend away in our Kalahari 8 last weekend. Good timing or what? The first decent weekend in about three months.
Had a great time and learnt a few things. Mainly that a BBQ is not great for general cooking. I have now bought a two ring gas hob thingy.
Also decided that we need some sort of kitchen.
Our budget is around £50.00. Must be solid as the cooker is quite heavy. Other than that we are open to suggestions from you more experienced camperists.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers
Nick

I have been trying to find a picture of the tables I used in my tent, i had one that had a central bit for putting the cooker on, a small lift up flap-type bit to the right that was great for utensils and stuff while you were cooking and to the left there was another full size table, which made it very sturdy. Most of the ones I can find now are way more expensive and have cupboards attached. The cupboard bit is good, I did get cheesed off with things falling off the back of the table! The gelert website has a few good things, but they do seem pricey, maybe have a look at those and someone will be along to tell you where the cheaper versions can be found!
At this time of year always keep an eye on the lidl and aldi specials on line - they have some great camping buys at a fraction of the big name prices and usually at least the same quality.
------------- August - Carsington Water CC Site. Don't know where else yet - only picking up the caravan on Friday!

hi we used to have a cooker that was on its own legs, but hubby said it killed his back so we have just got a stand from Argos. it has wind sheilds and two cupboards underneath. we have used it once and it is great, the only thing is that is does not have a front but does not bother . i think it was under £40. great value for money.

I have always hated out first kitchen stand as it wobbles, so my advice would be to go and look at a few and see what suits. Go Outdoors have a few different styles on display if you have one nearby and they are 15% off this weekend.
I've just bought this and it seems well put together and will fit well into out kitchen tent.

The Hi Gear Elite Kitchen stand is half price this next week in GO - £20 instead of £40. Looks nice, has a windshield and cupboard underneath. Just trying to persuade myself we DON'T need it!

This one is brilliant - I recently purchased and used on a camp this weekend.
It has lots of space - burner could go in the middle, and the side could be used for dishing up, the smaller side could be used for putting utensils etc.
the cupboard is a good size and zips up for storage, and the shelf below the cooker is handy to store your pots and pans.

I agree with Lewislaw above !
The unit he suggests is made by lots of companies but is the most stable of all the units we tried. I hated many and could only wonder who would trust a wobbly unit with a pan of boiling water on top. Ours looks almost exactly the same as Lewislaw's but is made by Vango ... its great to have a net fronted cupboard to keep the cups in away from the flies. The cooker top portion has a metal slatted top which does not warp or ignite from the heat of the grill on the campingaz cooker grill. Watch out for laminated cooker tops as they can be damaged by the downward heat from a gas flame. THe wind shield is great at keeping the breeze from blowing out the cooker flame even when sited in a open awning.
