Hi folks, I have just bought a new 24litre powered coolbox made by EasyCamp. It seems to use the same mouldings as the Outwell version. (I think they have the same parent company "Oase").
Anyway, the thing is, it seems rather noisy! It definately cools 10 - 15 deg C below ambient tempartures, but the whooshing noise of the fan combined with the hum of the motor is noisier than I had expected. So much so, I think I will be taking my trusty CampingGaz passive coolbox instead when we go to Corfe over Whitsun.
Do I just have a bit of a lemon, or are these usually a bit on the noisy side?
I get used to the noise from the cool box in no time, as well as the fan heater and the dog's snoring!
With the fan heater on, I cannot hear the cool box.
I carry ear plugs just in case I need them though, however, using them would mean missing out of the dawn chorus.

Yes ... my wife complained about the coolbox noise ... so I traded up to a table top fridge ... apart from being much better (not reliant on ambient temperature calculation), it is much quieter!
We bought a powered coolbox from Aldi last year and to be honest, by the time we went to bed on the first night it had just become one of those background noises that you get used to. I wouldn't say ours is particularly noisy though.
I used a powered coolbox for years, i did find the noise annoying at times and I certainly couldnt have slept with it on. What I used to do was put ice packs from a passive coolbox into the campsite freezer during the day, put those in the powered box at night and switch it off. I wouldn't leave anything in it for as long as a household fridge - but they're not that big anyway. With the amount the temperature drops at night milk, bacon etc were still fine in the morning, even in France.
------------- August - Carsington Water CC Site. Don't know where else yet - only picking up the caravan on Friday!
Weve used one the for a few years now and yes you get used to the noise and we turn ours off at night and it stays cold until we turn it on next morning

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
