I agree with Arsenaldes in that we are all different and what works for one will not work for others. By the time my daughter was 7 she slept in all in one sleepsuits with several layers underneath. I think you need to use how your child is in bed at home as a guide - mine never kept blankets on in bed even as a tiny infant, so we have to attach the layers to her. the good thing about the furry sleepsuits (from mothercare and they sometimes have some in asda/tescos etc) is that fleece blankets 'stick' to them! If I had put her in one of those 'mummy' shaped sleeping bags she would have gone mad, whereas a child that lies still in bed would probably be very comfortable.
Like lots of campers we usually change into our nightwear a good while before bed to warm it up, sometimes we keep what we have had on in the day and wear it to bed - especially if we are only off for the weekend and laundry isn't going to be an issue. Fleece blankets will squish into tiny spaces in cars etc and are available very cheaply in places like pounstretcher and B&M. Until you know what your children will be comfortable with I would advise taking as much of anything as there is roon for - thermal undies etc. There's nothing worse then being kept awake half the night by your freezing cold child (your neighbours don't like it much either!)
