Hi this is my first ever post and would love some replies regarding sleeping bags. We have just bought the Gelert Morpheus 8 and cant wait to use it. However what sort of sleeping bag should we be going for? Two adults, 1 seven year old and 1 two year old? Should the seven year old have an adult sleeping bag? Other than camping mattresses which we have is there anything else to aid in sleeping that anyone can suggest? Many thanks for replies.

Gelert sleeping pods are great as nice and roomy enough to turn around inside the bag so no fighting with your bag to get comfortable. I managed to get a child sleeping bag from go that extends as they grow. Problem with sleeping bags that are too big is that it is more difficult to warm the air inside the bag. Children will probably be fine with quilts if you don't want the expense of a sleeping bag when they are likely to grow out of it. A camp blanket for kids is great and you can sew cloth badges/flags from the places you have visited - a functional travel log.

For us decent quality sleeping bags are a must and the best synthetic ones weve found (and weve tried quit a few) are the Outwell camper lux our 2 boys use Outwell Contour 2300 however we tend to camp spring/sumer/autumn. Some people tend to feel the cold more than other and women feel the cold more than men so what suits one may not suit another. Weve never found quilts/blankets etc any good. As for the kids Outwell make a converible sleeping bag that is extendable as kids grow plus midi and baby sleeping bags are also available

I agree with Arsenaldes in that we are all different and what works for one will not work for others. By the time my daughter was 7 she slept in all in one sleepsuits with several layers underneath. I think you need to use how your child is in bed at home as a guide - mine never kept blankets on in bed even as a tiny infant, so we have to attach the layers to her. the good thing about the furry sleepsuits (from mothercare and they sometimes have some in asda/tescos etc) is that fleece blankets 'stick' to them! If I had put her in one of those 'mummy' shaped sleeping bags she would have gone mad, whereas a child that lies still in bed would probably be very comfortable.

Like lots of campers we usually change into our nightwear a good while before bed to warm it up, sometimes we keep what we have had on in the day and wear it to bed - especially if we are only off for the weekend and laundry isn't going to be an issue. Fleece blankets will squish into tiny spaces in cars etc and are available very cheaply in places like pounstretcher and B&M. Until you know what your children will be comfortable with I would advise taking as much of anything as there is roon for - thermal undies etc. There's nothing worse then being kept awake half the night by your freezing cold child (your neighbours don't like it much either!)
