Depends where you are going - most sites I've been to don't allow them because of the noise.
Machine Mart always have a good selection.

Ohhhh nooooo here we go again, ding ding round one.

Ok I have tired most generators and have ended up with two Hondas as most my camping/travel is in remote areas.

The really cheap ones you see on eBay up to £200 forget them they are junk. Instead of recommending a make look for these features, pure sine output, suitcase enclosure and preferable a Honda engine.

At the cheaper end you have hyandai, Sdmo(honda engine) kippor And the new Briggs and Stratton one looks interesting. But trust me the £200 ones are complete junk that sound like cement mixers and will last 6 months tops.

Forgot to add the Clarke IG1000 look decent for the money. THIS is the cheapest you should go, buy secondhand if you are looking at spending less.

I agree, if you camp in commercial sites in the uk you really do not need it. I also find people have very unrealistic expectations from generators and as I have found out the only truely quite generator is the Honda EU10. The two times I have used it in the uk I put it under the car and no one is any the wiser that it's running. But use the bigger EU 20 and there is no hiding it. They are also very limited in what they can run, forget kettles, cookers etc. in fact anything with an inductive load, ie a motor and they struggle. They really are a last resort rather than a choice. For me I might not see a plug socket For 2 weeks so pretty essential, but on saying that I'm sure I could get by without. I honestly would not use one on a uk campsite, absolutely no need for it. Even rallies charge up a leisure battery and use an inverter.

if it's for just weekend camping you should be able to manage without a genny.  We rally a lot and do have a genny but have stopped using it in favour of using the battery and a 60w solar panel which keeps the battery topped up the whole time we are away.  The panel we got cost us £110 with a 5m lead and the regulator so a lot cheaper than a genny and better for the other campers (no noise or pollution)

We have the Honda EU10 which slips under caravan at the back (exhaust sticking out) and you really can,t hear it we only use it to charge the battery, laptop etc so it isn,t really under any load

But I agree with all the above comments the cheap ones are pants and they use twice the fuel of the honda
