The inital cost is high because you have to pay a one off hire charge for the bottle (about £28), then when you need to change it again you just pay for the gas (less than £20 for 7.5kg)
Any brand of gas cylinder will do, around Sheffield there is Flow gas and Energas which will be cheaper than calor but if you run out on holiday it may be harder to exchange so probable wise to stick to calor.
As already said, find yourself a secondhand calor cylinder from ebay or try the dumpit sites then you have not the hire charge to pay.
Many garages stock calor gas.
