Oh, sorry I have a couple of spares for free, but I'm in Hampshire, you can pick them up quite cheap on ebay though. Its the deposit for the bottle thats expensive, not the gas, so if you pick up a cheap secondhand bottle you should save around £20

The inital cost is high because you have to pay a one off hire charge for the bottle (about £28), then when you need to change it again you just pay for the gas (less than £20 for 7.5kg)

Any brand of gas cylinder will do, around Sheffield there is Flow gas and Energas which will be cheaper than calor but if you run out on holiday it may be harder to exchange so probable wise to stick to calor.

As already said, find yourself a secondhand calor cylinder from ebay or try the dumpit sites then you have not the hire charge to pay.

Many garages stock calor gas.

I paid £6 each for a couple of empty 15kg Calor bottles one ebay and then exchanged them for 4.5kg bottles at a Calor stockist.

Don't know how far you want to travel but these are in Leeds...

Go to your local tip and get the one you want for free. Then take it to your local gas supplier and get an exchange so you only pay for the gas.

I think the OP may be enquiring about Campingaz rather than Calor, but the same advice applies.

You will need the appropriate regulator depending on which you decide to go for. Calor comes in bigger (4.5Kg) bottles but works out cheaper than the Campingaz 907 for re-fills. Depends on whether you have space to carry the larger Calor bottles.

There are other makes of gas which come in same sizes as Calor but may need a different regulator and you may find it difficult obtaining refills when away from home as some are very localised in supply.

You may be able to get an empty bottle at your local council recycling centre (tip) but a lot, like ours, don't give them away anymore. Try car boot sales or Freecycle - in fact if you put an ad on Freecycle for one wanted you may get a few!

Swap the regulator for a calor one as these are cheaper to run and the cylinders are avaliable everywhere. Your stove will run on any type of gas if you have the correct regulator.
Go outdoors is generally a few £s cheaper in cylinders if you have a card. They sell both Calor and camping gaz.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I found someone selling a 4.5kg cannister about 4 miles away from me and he kindly threw a regulator in with it too.

I think you'll find that Calor don't sell their gas outside of the UK!

MrDasherD is right Calor gas is only available in the UK, Campingaz is available in most of Europe. Calor is cheaper so if you plan to camp in UK Calor gas (as op now has) is fine.
