we have changed the car to a ford focues estate its slightly smaller inside than our last car. anyway we used to pack the 4 dog cages at the back of the car flat dogs bed on top with the dogs on top with there harnesses on and the dog guard behined the front seats so the back was flat. we cant fit the cages in the new car and as its only a car for short term use may be max 12 months we dont want to be getting an expencive roof rack so i spotted the soft roof rack on ebay it holds 65kg and all the cages only come to 48kg so in the weight groups. has anyone tryed these are they any good. I thought as the cages were foled flat they might do the job anyone used them
decided not to use it in the end , as it sits in the middle of the car roof and gave me the impression that with any real weight on it, it would make the roof flex too much as it dosen't actually reach the sides of the cars roof where the support is.
i opted for the more normal roof bars instead
------------- no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far
We used a handi rack for the last 2 years and found it fab. In the reviews it says it lets in water through the doors, we had a minor amount one night when it was chucking it down.
We put cases chairs and all sorts on and it was fine - must say after we used the cords that were supplied to tie things to the roof I also attached some ratchet straps and bungee cords that I bought for a few pounds from Lidl to make extra sure that I did not loose anything down the motorway but I would definitely recommend them.
I planned to buy the inflatable roofrack and holdall as they seemed to be a good idea. However I found out that they would interfere with the side airbags in my car. It basically meant that the side airbags would not operate in case of an accident if the inflatable rack was fitted. You may wish to check if your car would have the same problem and if this is acceptable to you. I am not going ahead with it now.
I have used a soft "bag" for years, HOWEVER i only ever put 'soft' things in, like sleeping bags, pillows, clothes etc, I never felt confident enough to put anything structurally hard or fixed, I was always scared the wind would force the fabric to rub against the metal then it may fray then a hole apprear then the next thing the metal whatever would work it's way out!! Sorry, just saying what i thought may hapen!! I'm sure whatever you do will be right for you :)
