We're camping in Scotland this summer and are looking for something to heat our tent during those chilly evenings (when we have to retreat inside from all the midges). Would consider gas or electric. Any advice appreciated.

I personally would avoid using a gas heater inside a tent unless it is extremely cold like camping in Feb 12 earlier this year.

I used it to supplement the electric fan heater in the living area as the dog was hogging the fan heater in the bedroom pod.

It uses butane and has an anti-trip cut out, and oxygen depletion monitor etc., and uses butane gas canisters.

My normal tent heater a fan heater with a ceramic core, dual heat output, variable heat setting, thermostat, anti-trip device, with a maximum output of 2kW, picked up from Lidl's for about 15 GBP over a year ago.

We got an Argos Value heater for about £15 - its an electric fan heater which can also be used on the cold setting as a fan for when its too hot (cant see that ever happening though as as soon as we decide to go camping the temp in the country drops about 10 degrees!!)

it warms the tent up in 10 minutes and we can move it to point into the bedroom pods before the kidlets go to bed to warm it through.

We got a fan heater from Home Bargains for £7.99 two years ago.Got a gas fire,canister type also,but very rarely use it CO build up can be a problem with any type of heater which use fossil fuels.

We have both. Used gas last year (although didnt have it on when we went to bed and opened tent door just to let some fresh air in before bedtime).But found we were using a cannister nightly that lasted just 3hours so wasnt very cost effective especially as we always pay for EHU.

We now have a Honeywell electric heater - it's fab, looks stylish ( to go with my colour co-ordinating bits and bobs). It is alittle expensive but works really well. We go on sites with 16amp lekkie and we had it on with our T.V, Electric light and Electric coolbox.

Thanks for all the good advice folks.  Have decided to steer clear of the gas ones and purchased an  Elpine electric fan heater from Amazon which was really good value.  Looking forward to my first ever EHU and being cosy and warm in our tent :)

I think I'll investigate a wee travel kettle next... oh the luxury, ha ha!

I would advise spending extra in getting a low wattage kettle, as a normal domestic kettle with a maximum power output of 2kW would work fine with the EHU, providing one uses only one piece of appliance with a heating element at any one time.
