Couuld anyone give their opinions on the edfficiency of these cookers. My DH insists that as these units are smaller it is perfectly feasable for the output to be smaller Than other comparable compact units (though hasn't read any bumph on it). I say smaller is better anyway, just because it's aesthetically small doesn't mean inefficient, surely? We have limited space so this is a good thing anyway!... and as long as it boils a pan of potatoes what does it matter? They are the cheapest compact cookers I've seen - and seem fine for doing the job to me. What does everyone else think? (Help settle an argument!!).
Yes, that's the one ! Sorry I should have put a link up for it. Because it's not as big as another one we borrowed last summer, hub was reluctant to buy it, ending up in a tiff in the middle of asda the other day and us leaving without one ! Told him, fine then ! he can sort it out !......
it runs on the same cannisters as all the others,so will run in the same way.the only downside i can see is you have to be careful not to use a pan bigger than the gas ring,so it does not direct heat towards the cannister.and with that one being smaller means you will be a bit more limited with the size of pan you use.
I have two of the campingaz bistro stoves very similar to the asda stove you mentioned, I have been buying gas at a pound a tin and it lasts quite a while
we take them when space is tight and last year i did a dinner of pan fried chicken potatoes and two veg just using the two little stoves
if you want a bigger stove that uses a a gas bottle tesco has a two ring stove for £8.50, but you would need a regulator and a gas bottle to go with it, I have just bought the two ring from tesco and it is a good stove for that money
We have both the two ring version with gas bottle and hose, and one of the small single burners.
The two ring version is more powerful and we also find its not affected by a bit of breeze if you are cooking outdoors whereas the single burner stove can be a devil if you dont have some shelter. Obviously a cheap windbreak will sort this out unless the weather is really bad.
If you intend to go camping a lot and cook a lot of meals then the double burner stove is a good investment. A refill of the Campinggaz 904 bottle costs about £17 and lasts well over a season of regular use. You do have the initial investment of course.
If you arent doing as much cooking then the small single burner stoves are great and we always take ours, even if we have EHU. We have just paid £10 for 8 gas bottles in Asda.
thanks. We also have the two ring gas hob which we connect to a gas bottle. This year, however, we need to travel light as we are not taking the trailer. So the suitcase gas burners seem ideal. I saw the asda ones as I simply want the cheapest thing. As far as I'm aware all this single suitcase gas burners are much of a muchness, rather like blu-it type stoves. But hub insisted these particular ones at asda weren't as "big as his mother's one", which we borrowed a coule of summers ago, and therfore refused to buy it on that basis. (I think the one we borrowed was the camping gaz make).
thanks all.
