Hi all..

New to the site and camping, so please go gentle on me!

Me and the missus have been looking at seeing more of the country from our motorbike, I have camped before YEARS!!!! ago, so consider myself a complete newbie.. Wendy is a typical Scouse woman, she would prefer the tent to have showers, a loo with music and a clinique counter in the corner....

Beside this, she is prepared to give it a go, so it's my duty to make it as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible.

We have most things, as being a HGV driver, I have to kip out and cook for myself. We don't have inflatable mats, and with riding a bike, space is at a premium.

Please could any of you advise us on some decent quality self inflating mats?

I'm a recent convert to SIMs and off the back of recommendations on here I can give the 7.5cm Sportura mats the thumbs up.

They're available from CostCo at £18 each but I bought mine from Ebay for £25 delivered as that was cheaper than paying the CostCo joining fee

A friend of ours has a tent that has a shower, loo, kitchen, real beds etc he said its called a caravan should fit the bill

If money is no object, then go for Therm-a-rest.

I would also recommend the ones from Alpkit.

Buy the thickest in the maximum pack size that you can carry or afford.

We bought the Outwell SIMs after putting up with years of deflating airbeds. Found the Outwells very good - we got 2x5cm and 1x7cm. Being wusses, we put foam sleeping mats under them and they are incredibly comfortable. The added bonus is they are much warmer than airbeds. This is all IMHO, of course.

Much appreciated, I suppose we're lucky in that we have a couple of camping stores and an extremely decent mil surplus store close by.. I had thought about a foam mat under the bed, to increase insulation, but will have to see how things pack out.

If space is a problem, Alpkit do shorter versions, so less bulky. At least the boddy is supported comfortably.

well... Job sorted.

Went to Outdoor Megastore which is just down the road, was helped out by a very helpful assitant, James..

Ended up with 2 x outwell relaxes, which are large but still fit on the space available on me bike.
at £19 each are a great starter for 10.

This is me bike loaded up for just me...
