Just saying to OH that we should take the bedside lamp with us camping to give of that sort of light as its more cosy than the ufo LED type lighting we currently have.
Anyhow can anyone recommend an actual camping light which gives off a nice normal lighting other than the garish Led lighting.
The Outwell Castor lights are fab - they look nice and you use normal bulbs in them (small screw fitting). I don't know how I managed without mine now!

Don't rush to get one - they keep coming on offer. I think mine was £14 from GO. And yes, the light they give off is bright enough to read by and is a nice cosy glow.

Great! Hope you're pleased with it! Pretty good price too.

Where did you get that from ? Would love one of these ourselves for our tent :) and does it have an on / off switch ?
We use our Outwell tent heater for our lighting needs....it gives off a lovely warm light which you can read in, play cards etc..and it keeps you warm and toasty too
Just bought 2 of these Lampan lights from Ikea. The shade comes off so you can use it with or without and the base packs up inside the shade when not in use with enough room to store the cable and bulb. The shade and base are plastic so quite sturdy and easy enough to carry, and at a grand sum of £2.69 each, I'm not too bothered if they break in transit.
Uses a normal SES bulb up to a max of about 40watt - we've got low energy ones in which combined with the creamy coloured shade, they give off a nice warm glow rather than the harsh white of most LED lights.

We use rope lighting - cheap, choose whatever length you need, waterproof and pretty much indestructible - you can walk on it without breaking it, which is useful with the kids.

kampa dazzles with remote x 2 £9.99 very good, bought cheap ebay ones but they don't last and fall to bits and two did not have enough space in the battery compartment so always a struggle.
Just bought an alpkit bulb II, not used it yet, well made, compactand gets good reviews a decent spec for £15.00 delivered, I have the headtorches (Gamma) the best uou can get for the price range and upwards in my opinion and many others in fact.
