We're approaching a holiday to France in August, and we've recently had out our airbeds that we bought last year. One of our girls had been sleeping on it, just playing camping indoors :-)

By the morning it was pretty much flat. It was one from Aldi with the three year warranty.

To be honest this is just another airbed bought in a series of airbeds that have ultimately failed dismally.

We've bought cheap ones from Argos which we had replaced under warranty, but the replacements just were as useless. We then bought Coleman/Camping Gaz ones, which again we had replaced under the year warranty as they went down. Then finally the ones from Aldi.. we had high hopes seeing as they had a three year warranty, but they just seem as cr*p as all the rest.

I don't want to go down the Aerobed (?) route, spend a small fortune, for them only to be useless too.

I've squirted soapy water all over this Aldi one, and I can't see any visible leaks... pain really.

I've been looking on a few online camping shops, and at the self inflating mats. Some come with puncture repair kits which in itself makes me think these will be equally prone to going down.

I just don't understand it, we never over inflate, the airbeds are on the tent carpet, and are generally handled with care... guessing that they simply don't make things to last.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance

Try using the airbed again but this time wet the valve (small one and the rubber bung in the large hole) with saliva, this will ensure a good seal, works for me

I have swapped from air bed to sim this year, mainly because I hated the bouncy feeling on an air bed every time you try to move. I bought a pricier sim for me, cheaper for the kids. I have the gelert 10cm, it was £40 new from eBay. The kids both have Aldi ones which they are very comfortable on, and, to be honest, I find quite comfy when I've lain onit too. So you don't have to spend loads on them. They are lots warmer, but do take up a bit more space in the car...may be a consideration for you with so many to fit in!

I'll give that a go Caster... was thinking about getting some vasoline, and rubbing a thin smear on the rubber rings to see if that helped, will certainly give it a go.

Thanks Kate, we're off to a couple of local camping shops tomorrow for some bits and pieces, so we'll have a look at the sims to see what they're like. Never heard of them to be honest before reading a bit today :-)

Thanks very much

Have to say I have given up with airbeds now and have bought folding camp beds - extremely comfortable and stable, no chance of deflating in the middle of the night and you gain extra storage space under the beds!

Ah, airbeds. Years ago, not much money, spent ages repairing an airbed, on the roofrack for our camping tip to Devon. Arrived to find that said airbed had disappeared so had to buy a new one anyway.
