I'm so sorry as I'm sure there are a few of these topics about but i wondered if you would be able to answer something for me

I have NEVER  been camping, My partner has as a child, and this weekend we are going on our first camping trip (Along with the two kids!)

Now, we have everything we can think of - but its occured to me that although we have the cooker and accessories etc - we dont actually have anything to cook under should it be raining. The tent we have has a porch on it - My partner says that he doesnt think we will be able to stand underneath it and cook (I thought we could) - SO I was hoping one of you lovely lot could suggest something?

This question come up time and time again there are those that say No way your going to die from gassing or burn . Charcoal BBQs are a big NO NO in your tent you will die !

That over with most Gas cookers for camping are in my opinion safe for use in the porch of your tent . Make sure what ever your cooking on be it a table or kitchen stand is level and stable keep it clear of the sides of your tent and keep cooking in your tent simple ! No flambe . Keep kids out of the area while cooking prepare as much as possible before you put a pan on the stove and DONT leave it unattended .

Ive cooked a lot in tents because when you backpack cycle motorcycle kayak you don't get the choice as to take extra shelters shelter in the car or say sod it and nip to the chippy . just take care Ive cooked in a 3 man tent with 4 adults in it . In 60mph wind so a family group should have no trouble ! Just don't add alcohol till after cooking

Funnily enough i did suggest an umbrella which got veto'd haha!!

We went and got a kitchen stand to put the cooker on and my idea was to use this under the porch :)

I did see that you could buy camping kitchen areas - but kinda wondered what was the point when we have a porch :)

We used the Utility tent before we had an extension (porch) - the cooker moved into that - when raining/windy we used to just put a windbreak across the front. 

We used the porch for cooking (using common sense ) before we got a utility tent. I have to say it was a godsend during the bank holiday when it rained quite heavily.

I too have bought the gazebo from Asda, but with the intention of using it for shade in the hot weather (should that happen). I collected it yesterday, and did a quick trial run in the garden. For the price, I think its amazing, but not sure it would hold up to the weather we had in Dorset- Queens Bank Holiday!!!

I guess it depends on how confident you feel. It would be a shame to spoil your first camping trip worrying everytime you cooked.
