Go Outdoors weird pricing policy strikes again

Before the extra 15% off price reduction
Outwell camper lux £44.95 no discount card required

Extra 15% off all department offer
Outwell camper lux £46.74 discount card required

Yup! I love Go Outdoors but you really have to keep an eye on the price of things as some of the special offers aren't that special at all.

Went to order a tent today with the extra 15% off but not available for home delivery and none in the nearest store either. Was actually a reduced price too.

I managed to get a voyager 6 porch for just under £64.00
It was £120 instore less the 15% making it £102 but it was online at something like £63.75 which they checked whilst I was instore and they honoured the price which was apparently an error.
Online it is now back to the correct price,
So got a good bargain !

It's this sort of nonsense from Go Outdoors that makes me shun them for other retail outlets. It REALLY bugs me. Their prices are up and down like the Assyrian Empire which shows they've got little but contempt for their customers.

If you pick out certain products prices will fluctuate – but this happens with all retailers. If you are a little bit savvy just do a one minute search see if you can find it cheaper and GO Outdoors will price match and beat it.

Aresnadales has highlighted a sleeping bag that now costs more with the 15% off. Personally I would just look for the cheapest and price match so you could get the bag for £38.66. If you find the price cheaper seven days after you purchase an item you can get an additional refund under the price match guarantee – I don’t know many retailers who offer this.

They do have some cracking deals, as an example they are currently the cheapest on the Crusader EHU at £25.00. If I needed one I know where I would go... Go Outdoors will always be cheaper for named brand stock because of the price match. If you feel it’s too complicated or difficult to price match it’s very simple.

As far as the annual membership goes you can easily make this on savings. Again as an example they had the Outwell castor light for £12 - the next cheapest was £24.00. Even with the one off membership you would still have saved money if you wanted or needed the light.

Go Outdoors are a bit like Marmite though – you either love them or hate them (I love them)

Another example the Outwell Montana Lake (polycotton tent) is £637.49 down from £750 (probably the cheapest 2012 stock). However if you get a successful price match against JR Leisure who have the 2011 for £599.99 you can get the tent for £539.99 delivered. A great price and a saving of £60. Several UK Campsite members have reported success of getting this price match.

Thats not the point though as I was not talking about price matches. We are talking about an extra 15% off in all departments where it actually makes the item MORE EXPENSIVE and you have to pay an extra £5 to buy it at the more expensive price. Been quite a few bad reports about the Crusader EHU as well due to cheap chinese components

arsenaldes EHU: Strange that's not what our friend Kevin at Camping online has said about them... "We had a lot of returns and complaints and changed brands to the crusader version which after 3500 sales since last year never had one back yet". I've had mine for 4 years with no problems..? I'm assuming because you never shop at Go Outdoors you have never owned one but obviously have read posts of faulty units?

It is the point though, you can price match any branded item from Go Outdoors and it will be cheaper. I totally agree that the standard shop price is more expensive and it may even have increased with the 15% off but you would be mad to pay that price. As demonstrated with my example it's easy to find the price cheaper elsewhere, get a price match and benefit from the lower price. Just complaning that you think the standard prices are too high is really missing the point.

Anyway why do you care, I thought you never shopped at Go Outdoors...?

Soon you won't have a price match system I dont think. Considering 2 of the biggest brands have pulled out of go outdoors, both the north face and mountain equipment will not be stocked this winter. And of cause kampa are not in there at all. Think that goes to show that go outdoors are turning into just big sheds, and brands are realising this and not doing there brands a great image.

kopte4ever: What’s more interesting is that more on line stores are offering price match. It's just that Go Outdoors have the best offer with 10% extra and valid for seven days after purchase.

The one thing about Go Outdoors is they do have a very limited camping range and as you say Kampa products are not stocked at all and only available through independent camping shops.

It is important for retail alone to have labels to go into independant stores, would you like to see Kenzo, Joop!, Giorgio Armani clothing mixed in with George clothing etc.

Go outdoors has it's place in the market, we use it when we need to and to be honest they will have got a few more people camping out there for not a big outlay but with better quality gear than argos or halfords.

I treat them like the DFS/Tesco of the camping world, constant sales and promotions, but convienient like a supermarket most things under one roof.

Talking of supermarkets they have been pushing prices up before promotion for years, it is a bit of an old one this, at least go outdors price matches and ofers 10% off.....unless it was a hi gear bit of kit.
