We have used the Handirack system. Easy to use, didn't damage the car roof. Only used for lightweight stuff like sleeping bags. The only problem is the roof bag isn't waterproof, it doesn't claim to be and you can buy waterproof holdalls to go inside, I think some of the roof bags are waterproof.

I have the handirack and a cheap roof bag off ebay and it worked fine for us even with a leak in one of the 'bars'. Argos have a cheap black roof bag on offer for £24.99, my cheap ebay one is brown 17 so I've advertised it locally and if it sells I'll get a nice new black one from argos 17

We use one and have found it really helpful the only things to be aware of are

it does dent the roof a little when loaded but this does reverse when it is removed

the threading needed to fix the bag onto the handirack can be a challenge if you are not that tall

the biggest issue is if it rains....the holdall that go inside the roof bag seem to waterproof but the problem we have found is that the straps from the roof bars come inside and thru the car if you are tall you might find this uncomfortable but if it rains for any length of time the wet starts to wick down the strap and into the car....we keep a couple of towels handy to resolve this.

Excellent. We have used them for ages but recently got a rigid roof box and rails costing over £300, so our DD could use the inflatables. Found the inflatables easier to use and set up and certainly much easier to store.

I've just put this on another thread as I have been looking at the Handirack system.  I wondered if you could use any bag on the inflatable rails. Or if there were other cheaper alternatives.

Anyone know?

Can I add to this, has anyone got the EasyRack ones and if so, what are they like?  Or does anyone know how they compare to the HandiRack version?

I would watch your fuel consumption with the bag on the roof it could make 15% difference. Best to shove everything inside if you can. However as you might drive a bit slower with the bag on it could cancel out.

Hi Elman, I cant speak for anyone else but for us we would only use the bag when we do our week long holidays (or long weekends) for a normal weekend we can fit everything in fine.

To be honest we could fit everything in without it but I like to have a clear line of sight through the car and with a weeks worth of stuff we may struggle.

If we do get one, we are going on a road trip round Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and France so we dont intend to be on main roads much, we intend to use smaller roads so that we can see the countryside and stop and wander as we make our way from site to site so I dont think I'll be legging it

Maybe we should have a test pack to see if we really need one first

Have now got my inflatable roofrack and bag. Got the holdall packed with bedding and light things that take up too much boot space. Bought the HR20 from handiworld for under £60. They say the bag has improved waterproof but have still packed in vac bags just incase. Trying it out next.
