We have a gas bottle (donated to us) but without the cap. I have sourced one on line for about £8 max with postage, but was wondering if I can close it off with the regulator. Travelling on the channel tunnel very shortly so worried it won't come on time. Does anyone know if the regulator turned off is acceptable for the channel or does it have to be the screw top?

A swift reply really appreciated as if I have to order on line will have to do it asap.

Many thanks in advance.

From the Eurotunnel website:

"When travelling gas containers must be switched off and connection systems must be in good condition."

So it looks as is the requirement is for the cylinder to be turned off, rather than disconnected and capped.

hi maz, i think the regulator way would be best then it is visible if any inspection should be done as they could see that the valve is in off position. try asking at your local gas sales place as well. goodluck gary

8 quid! - for a bottle cap?!!

Are we talking about the little black plastic cap that protects the bottle screw threads?

Don't pay it, drop me an email and i'll happily send you one gratis (butane or propane)

I assume it's this one...? Is this the the type you have Oldfolder...?

Just one note of caution, if you run out of gas without a cap your bottle may not be exchanged.

McGuire - yes that's the one. We have a 907 gas bottle. We tried our local gas supplier but they haven't any spare. They exchanged the bottle with no problem, but would not supply the new one with the top - which is understandable. It's amazing how much something so small costs! Even on ebay they are over £9. It may not be alot, but every small payment adds up doesn't it!

Try your local tip, ours used to give them away but they've wised up now, they charge £5 a cylinder and occasionally have 907's. It's also worth keeping an eye on Ebay for empty cylinders. I've had 2 x 907's for 99p each both with caps included.

Many apologies! - I didn't read your thread title correctly, and didn't realise you needed a Campingaz fitting.

The ones I have are for Calor, which you would have been more than welcome to have.

sorry again - hope you get it sorted.

bad intent is right, if you can find an empty bottle with a lid, you could have a spare bottle and lid for the same price (or less) of just the lid.

It takes a lot of patience and can become obsessive. I now have 3 x 907's and 2x calor 4.5kg's!!! All under £1 (less fuel). Calor for UK, Campingaz for Europe, jobsagoodun.

Just a little heads up for the original poster. We once travelled with the regulator attached to our 907 bottle, firmly in the "switched off" mode. It was in our camping trailer. During the action of packing things around it, it must have been knocked, because when we got home and took the trailer cover off, I'm surprised we weren't blown sky high. The trailer was full of gas.

Be careful - I'd leave the cylinder without the regulator on.
