Morning all, I am looking at going camping for the first time this summer and would welcome any advice on what is good and not good with regards to equipment etc. I have spent hours looking at tents online and thinking on getting a Eurohike Avon 3man dome after reading reviews on here it seems a good buy. What other equipment should i be looking for??
Thanks in advance

The basics (apart from the tent, pegs and mallet) are:
* something to sleep in - sleeping bag or duvet
* something to sleep on - airbed, camp bed, self inflating mat
* something to sit on - stool, folding chair
* something to cook on - stove and gas (I personally like the suitcase stoves that use cartridges)
* cooking utensils - pots, pans, plates, cups, bowls, cutlery
* cool box/bag
* table - food prep area, somewhere for the stove to sit, to eat at
* light - torch, lantern
* holdall/rucksack for clothes

You will probably find you already have many of the basics around the home.

After the basics, you can then think of any "extras" you might like to get eventually:
* EHU
* fridge
* tent carpet
* porch/canopy extension
* utility tent
* kitchen stand
* camp cupboard/wardrobe
* heater

Hope that helps a bit!

We went a bit mad and bought everything before we went camping for the first time.  Thankfully we loved it and we have had use out of it now!

I hate being cold so a good sleeping bag (I have Vango Nitestar 300XL - Its huge) and something comfortable to sleep on.  I personally dont like air beds!

I suppose it depends how long you are going for.  If just a weekend you could take a bbq and that would do.. eat out the rest of the time.  Saves buying a cooker and gas bottle if you might not use it again!! Our Hi Gear cooker is ok, does the trick for us anyway and i think its about £30.  Just shove it on a table in the porch to cook on.

I'd just get yourself down to go outdoors and see what they have on offer. A good cooker and cool-box are a must as is a sleeping bag. A decent lantern is also worth investment, if you haven't looked at sites yet, I would suggest Great Langdale.
