After reading several posts on the double skillet we took the plunge and bought 1.
Have to say what a great piece of kit, having used it now on a couple of camping trips. Really versatile and a real space saver as now we've no need to take loads of pots and pans.
You'll not be disappointed if you purchase 1, just wish we'd got 1 sooner.
The 2 pans interlock either one on top of the other so as you can cook 2 layers on 1 ring or you can lock them together inners facing 1 another so as you create an oven effect to be used on 1 ring. (We cooked roast beef in it no problem)
It's little hard to explain there's a demo video here
Before I go away, I tend to make extra meals and put them in foil containers to heat up in the oven - things like Shepherds pie which can't just be bunged in a saucepan. I bought one of those little electric ovens but didn't find it heated things through properly.
Would I be able to use a double skillet like an oven for this?
We have used one of these double skillets for many years, but now that we have a full cooker with oven in our FC, we no longer need the double skillet.
However we still carry half of it with its lid to use as a big pan or frying pan.
One thing we have learned is that the non stick coating is a bit thin and as we stack our pots in the camper, to save the non stick coating from being damaged by other pots, we have cut one the silicone cooking meshes into a circle that fits inside the skillet and this is places into it before we stack other pans on top. This saves the coating from being damaged in any way.
Hubby says ours is one of the best pieces of camping kit we own
