Off camping this weekend.
We have one single burner & a bbq. this morning we decided that as we are going with friends this time we fancy getting another single burner (to make cooking for 7 easier).
I would normally head to GO (and buy more than i should) so thought i would check with the 'All Knowing' UK campsite world..........
Any good deals or recommendations on single burners atm??
Are you thinking of getting a 'suitcase stove' (the type of single burner that looks like this?
If so, then GO frequently have their own Hi-Gear brand on offer and also sell 'multi-buy' packs of cannisters.
However, I have one of the Hi-Gear version (I paid about a fiver for it in a GO sale) and I also regularly use the Coleman version (which cost its owner about fifteen quid). You get what you pay for - I have had trouble with the Hi-Gear stove including occasional 'blow-back' where the gas ignites in the jet rather than the burner, trouble fitting the cannisters, and rust starting to appear. The Coleman is older and has seen more use but is still performing faultlessly.
I always take a single suitcase stove for boiling a kettle, and I've had the same one for a few years with no probs. However, on the trip I've just got back from I had to go out and buy another as my old faithful had finally given up the ghost (well was more a case of murder really as I reversed over it....don't ask!)
Anyway, long story short. I found the nearest shop that sold them (Asda) and picked up a little Gem of a stove . Very compact (lot smaller than the usual suitcase stoves) solid with good flame control, and best of all, only £7.50 in the sale. Liked it so much I've bought another!

The Go single burners are rubbish (imho). We bought 2 and had to take one back as the top plate was bent and did not sit flat. Exchanged if for another and before leaving checked that one and also the same. Went away and used 1 of them and had such a low flame it took over an hour to cook some sausages. The only way to get a high flame was to turn and hold the flame setting dial. Took that and the other unused one back to Go and bought a Coleman one from Argos instead. The Coleman were £14.99 in the sale when we got it. Yes 3 times the price of the Go ones but like SC says you get what you pay for.
The guy at Go said the quality of the Hi Gear ones is very variable!

I guess that must be the case, we have had ours two years without fault, seems the chinese factory knocking these out has QC problems sometimes, I think they are great value.

I got one from Tesco because it was only £10 and it was the campingaz camp bistro which I assumed would be good quality. How wrong was I. It was made of very thin tin, which bent as I was getting it out of the plastic case. Took it back and got a refund.
Got the Hi Gear one from Go Outdoors for £9.99, which is far better.
