To supply power to my tent I have a TPU (tent power unit) as supplied in the Eurocamp/Canvas Holidays/Sunsites tents as opposed to a EHU. - I swapped it for a couple of boxes of  St Omer  with some reps who were off to the South of France for a couple of weeks holiday. When we go to Europe I obviously have no problem. In this country I have only used it to power the built in lighting and a couple of 240v to 12 v transformers using cigar lighter plugs (which do not have an earth cable) - to power a 12v cool box / 5 inch TV etc.

If I want to use it in this country to power an appliance that needs an earth (eg small fan heater) do I need to make up an adapter (swopping the polarity) in the same way as I would if I took an EHU to France - but the other way round.

 - If you see what I mean Question

I always use european plugs to connect into the unit

If you had a short lead with a European plug on one end and a UK 13amp socket on the other you could use a standard Martindale polarity tester

In this country the polarity should be correct so once you have got it right it should stay right.

If you check polarity and it isnt right then you need to speak urgently with the site owner

Its worth checking in this country anyway because the Martindale will check earth continuity as well as reverse polarity

Its quite common on rallies to find a fault in this way as constant handling of the mains lead can cause terminals to lose their grip on the cable cores.
