We're going to a site next week that has TV Hook up at the EHU point. Never bothered about it before but since the Olympics has been on, we've all got quite engrossed. It would be a pity to miss out. If we take the laptop, what would we need? Freeview dongle + what? I suppose what I'm asking is how to get it from the hook up to the laptop! Apologies if this has recently been covered.

If it's a standard aerial connection that they provide then all you need is an aerial lead. The type that comes out of the wall from the roof of your house.

This depends on whether the freeview dongle you choose has the same input, which is likely will.. The dongle should have some software and a USB connection... I haven't looked at them for some time though so double check all the details..

Hi I posted in this Forum only yesterday about this subject

You can get them on Ebay
for less than a £10 inc postage

The one I had worked well across Europe. You may need a portable ariel as the one that comes with them are not great.

Would still use mine, if my laptop was not upgraded to 64 bit Windows 7, as there is no drivers available.

The one mentioned by cllr_gyppo comes with a free Coaxial adaptor so all you would need with this one is a length of Coaxial cable (TV aerial cable) with a standard coaxial plug on either end.

If using a different type of dongle make sure it has a connection for an external aerial. You will then need an adaptor to convert it's external connection to a standard coaxial socket.

Buying one that cheap may be a false economy, as it may not be as sensitive a receiver as some of the more expensive ones.

I've got a Hauppauge USB stick - it's got good sensitivity and it comes with drivers for any version of Windows - and also works under Linux as well!
