Carbon monoxide should not be an issue with a well maintained heater. With a flame heater if there's a steady blue flame it's fine in that respect. The main thing is plenty of ventilation at both high and low level, that will cope with the Carbon Dioxide and water vapour that any non-sealed heater will give off. The other thing is to make sure the heater is solid and stable, and isn't too close to the tent walls. Obviously if you've got kids or pets running around just don't do it! The catalytic heaters are unlikely to cause CO, and are generally very slightly cooler, but I don't find them as effective at radiating heat. If you do have hook-up available then a small fan heater or oil-filled radiator is obviously safe (and probably cheaper to run). Glen
