could anybody advise me regarding bike racks?  i've seen a "Verona" 3 bike carrier that fits on to a hatchback with straps but i've been told carriers that are fitted to the car with straps have a lot of play in them and sway about.  Any advice appreciated ; ) thanks

I've used a 3 bike halfords rack fitted with straps on my various hatchbacks over the years, including a drive to the south of France, and I've never had any problems with them.

I would say, make sure they are secure, I also secure my bikes to the rack using a lock, and stop and check after a few miles.  I also check them everytime we stop just to be sure.

No doubt fixed racks are more secure, but if your sensible straps will be fine.

As above, just make sure you tighten the straps properly! We've used the same Halfords 3 bike rack on a Frontera, a Mini, a Golf, and an Audi estate. You must remember also that if the bikes obscure the tail lights, indicators and number plate you must attach a light board. Not doing so could result in points on your licence and a fine.

Hi,

I have used the saris 3 bones - very secure.  Do not forget that you are likely to need a tailboard with your reg plate and lights working to be legal.

I also use a double bike set up on a roof rack which I do prefer so may be worth a look also.

Cheers

Darren

We have the Saris Bones 3 bike rack too. It is very solid and doesn't move. We don't need an additional number plate as it is set high enough up. This was the only. Ike rack that we found to have no movement on our vehicle. We have a Zafira 59 plate.

The only problem we have found is that when we are towing our trailer, the arms of the rack are too long and hit the teailer on tight turns! D'oh!!! Can recommend the bike rack though, it's great!
