Hey Guys,
I am wondering whether to get a quilted bedspread, perhaps with cashmere, or a sleeping back for my camping trip to the south west of England this bank holiday? Can anyone help me out?

We tried duvets years ago and found them them too cold and bulky so opted for decent sleeping bags. Each to his/her own though

I sometimes take a patchwork quilt instead of the fleece blanket.

We just had a week in Dorset. Not too fond of sleeping bags and night time temps in this area are fine if you take duvets like we opt for. We have a thick pure wool blanket but it tends to stay on the end of the bed. Not sure about a cotton bedspread. Doubt it would have great thermal properties on its own. We have a thinner duvet on top of our SIMs and winter one over the top of us. Ours are microfibre so don't have quite the same loft as hollowfibre fill. I vacuum pack them at home and when leaving site I just lean on the bag and wiggle the valve. All the air comes out. Sometimes use an electric inflater / deflater to remove the last bit of air but its not always necessary and I could leave it at home. Two filled vacuum bags (with 4 towels, three pillows and extra fleece blankets) go in our roof pod with the 4 rolled up SIMs and chairs. To be honest our double sleeping bag pack size is huge anyway!

I tried to get on with sleeping bags but couldn't - felt too constrained when zipped up inside one.

So I just bring my duvet from home. Its bulky, but for me its worth it.

If its cold I might simply wear a jumper in bed. I do bring an extra blanket but have never used it and wonder whether to bother in the future.  I often feel very warm/cosy in my tent bedroom anyway.

We tried sleeping bags, but I used to feel either claustrophobic when it was done up and when I left it open I couldn't keep wrapped up.

Now we sleep on a duvet and have another duvet on top of us. We've camped 4 times in Dorset this year so far (next trip on Thursday!) and haven't been cold once. We use vacuum bags which shrinks them down a fair bit, as we've been restrained with space in the car.

I have 2 duvet, one for under me and one for on top.

One is summer (3.5 tog) and the other winter (13 tog). If its too hot, I sleep on winter one and use thinner on top, if cold I swap :-)

I too can't sleep in sleeping bag, too restrictive.

We have a fitted sheet on the airbed, then a flat sheet on top then 3 blankets on top of that with another large but heavy one at the bottom of the bed, This works great, and all goes in the vacuum bag.

It's certainly different and very chic!

We used duvets initially, above and below but found them a bit clammy sometimes so, converted to the claustrophia of sleeping bags. I actually prefer them now (despite my poor feet feeling a bit tethered).

I guess if it's a first time out, then the bedspread could be used at home if camping doesn't suit. Always good to have a double use for camping equipment - to justify the cost!
