I recently replied to a similiar post.

We bought an Outwell Superior 400LX-R lantern at the beginning of this season and it's been great. Much better than any light we've used so far.

Very good amount of warm light. Can be used on a table or can be hung via a hook which attaches to the base of the light. When hung upside down, you can remove the shade to prevent it casting shadows.

It lights up all of our four man Minnesota tent and most of our Vermont L. Plenty of light for general use and enough to read by as long as you're not sat too far away.

It's battery powered (no mains option) and takes six D type batteries. We have had about eighteen nights (about two hours per night) out of the first set of batteries so far and it's still going strong.

It's not cheap at arounf £50 but still highly recommended.

The Cyba-Lite one would appear to be the equivalent of the Outwell Superior 300LX rather than the 400LX-R that I mentioned.

The 300LX is available from around £30.00.

I've not seen the 300LX so can't comment on the difference in brightness.

well built and sturdy, batteries last a long time, my mate has the cyaba lite too they are identical in performance and build. 

Small but very bright for it's size 3 x AA is the alpkit bulb £15.00, but sold out at the moment, again other versions of the same lantern are upto £36.00

Was browsing for something else and noticed that outdoor megastore have the 400LX R on sale for £34.99.

Go Outdoors staock it so it would be quite a bargain if you got a price match.

The 300LX equivalent at Maplin for £14.99 has also got to be worth a look if it's bright enough for your needs.

Just been giving the Outwell 400LX-R a test in a darkened garage, and I have to say it's impressive for a £31.50 LED Lantern.

I had some Duracell "D" Alkaline batteries in the garage, save waiting for the Nimh batteries to charge up, but I guess it will still be as bright with re-chargeables despite the 1.8v drop when using re-chargeables.

A very neat feature of this Lantern is that you can Dim it varable to a faint Glow, either with the remote or by manual, the remote is cute to with it's own bright led how cool is that.
