Just received an Outwell Carpet via the Internet for my new Yellowstone falls tent. An hour later it was in the post back to the retailer. I am amazed that an £80 'carpet' designed for a tent with an rrp of £1700 could be so pathetic. It is, as has been said on this forum, little more than a sheet of nylon with a pattern printed on it.
I ignored the warnings I read here thinking they might be exaggerated but they were sadly dead accurate
Sorry you learned the hard way!!! They're shocking aren't they for the price. Mine went straight back too...am yet to find an alternative but there was no way I could keep it...I would have been fuming every time I used it!!!
I was surprised to be honest. I bought a Nevada Carpet in 2009 and went for a full update this year. Was quite shocked at the difference as the old one was fleecy and the new one was just awful, more of just a print than any type of carpet.
Well, it's always hard to judge other people's reactions in forums as you don't know what their expectations are, but in this case it appears they were the same as mine! I too would be fuming...
If it helps, I did have a look directly at the Hi-Gear website where they have the floor dimensions of all their tents. They have a massive range and so you should be able to find an alternative.
Gooutdoors seem to be offering an extra 10% off until 9th September
We got the carpet for our Montana 6P in May and not knowing that last years were better (never seen any other Montana 6) we kept it. Maybe next year it will improve...
I have the 2008 green carpet in my Vermont - it's sturdy, thick, well-backed and quite heavy - and it's showing no signs of wear at the end of our current season.
saw the latest brown carpets in Go Outdoors and was shocked at the difference. They're now no better than a picnic blanket one can get for a fiver.
But, they're now just the same as Vango carpets that have always been cheap and nasty for similar prices. Guess Outwell thought if Vango get away with it ...

I don't know what Vango carpets you've seen, unless Vango have also followed Outwell in going for more compact carpets. Our 2009 Vango Columbia carpet is much thicker than any of the other camping carpets I've seen over the last 3 years (including Outwell), with an incredibly thick layer of foam inside. It is very bulky packed though - which is why when we go camping for a weekend, I'm glad we have a Kampa tent as the carpets are the size of picnic blankets, soft but far more compact for packing. I bought a Gelert carpet for our Vango Kairos as I wanted to leave wet zones by the doors and a more compact carpet for touring. Its still bulkier than our Kampa carpet when packed though...
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
Some Coleman carpets are going the same way basically a flannel sheet with a pattern printed on it with a foam and pvc backing. Could be the cost of producing a "proper" carpet has escalated and these are now a cost effective alternative. Still does the job though

I've just ordered a 2012 Wolf Lake 7 and a carpet. Is it across the whole 2012 range, do you think? We have an Oakland XL 2011 and the carpet is fine.
Did you find a difference between your 2011 Oakland carpet and your 2012 Wolf Lake one, gedhart?
I'm in need of a biggish carpet so am considering the Outwell Delware 7. Does anyone know what the quality of these was like in 2012?
I've had Outwell carpets before, for other tents, and been pleased with them. I just don't want to order and then find out it's basically just a print rather than a pile on the waterproof backing!
There were loads of complaints about the quality of Outwell carpets in 2012 in these forums as this was the year the quality went downhill both mocca and green ones

I know, and that's what makes me a bit nervous about splashing out for one now.
I'm just wondering if the lesser quality was across all ranges, or restricted to just one or two models of Outwell carpet?
Not knowing what the Outwell carpets were like before 2012, I would say the carpets of 2012 were better then no carpet but they are not worth more then £60. We did pay £80 for ours but it was not till months later I found out about the lower quality.
You look at most carpets though, no better then a blanket with pvc backing. THe 2013 carpets have a new design (grey with the Outwell logo) however looking at the Montana 6P 2013 video it looks the same other then design.
Before we invested in our Montana 6 we had a Vango Tigris tent, which we brought as a package with carpet etc. We only used the Vango for one year before upgrading to the Montana. Anyway, we kept the carpet from the Vango Tigris as it was still is fab condition when we sold the Tigris. So we use this in the Montana. Although to does not cover the floor wall to wall, it cover the most part, and is a lovely thick spongy carpet, much better than the thinner Outwell ones I have seen. And also, if it needs a good "shake off" whilst we are away it is quite easy to remove from the tent as it does not fit under all the "edge of tent stuff".
So might be worth looking at other brands of carpet and looking at the sizes to see if they fit.
