We use these and i plug my kettle in, the night before i fill it, and take the remote to bed.

  Operates my lights from bed and even better in the morning i click my kettle on, and don't get out of bed until i have boiled water ready for my cuppa!!!!!!!!!!!      (even better my eldest is now starting to get the hang of making the said cuppa!!)

Unfortunately, We cannot find a remote for the eldest ??

We had the remote lantern from Argos a few years ago, still going strong.
