Who has used the backpack-type baby carriers. And how long for? Realistically, how old a baby would you carry in these? My grandson will be one and a half next summer and we would like to be able to walk with him. Our walks dont always have buggy-friendly terrain so thinking about buying a baby carrier. Comments please?
Thanks, I'm really wondering if we will get the use out of it - at least for next year and the following or if at 2 and a half he would be too old/heavy. I've seen the bush one on ebay, looks good.
We have a Vaude one I'm about to put on Ebay . We used it for both our daughter they loved it . 3years is about the limit but 4years would be possible total depends on size of child and build of adult ! .

The longer you wear it, the heavier they get, the more you tighten the waist belt to take the weight off your shoulders, the smaller your waist gets!!! (well for a short time anyway )
It is bliss when you take it off!
We used one with both kids, up until they were about nearly 3 yrs old (daughter only - son too heavy after 2 and a bit). After that they can damn well walk!
Try and buy a 2nd hand one. There are plenty about as they are never used for that long.
Got it 2nd hand (as new) for £30. - So I'd echo comments above.
Youngest is 3 now and whilst I consider myself fairly able, I do feel the strain after a few hours. Time for a lowering of pace shortly I think and she can walk rather than be carried...
We tried one once and hated it, thankfully we had borrowed it. From age 2 we just told our son he had to walk and he did. I always remember the first time we did that, every time he asked to be carried we told him it was a forest walk not a forest carry. He managed to complete it and has never complained since
