Many will tell you on here that there is no such thing as a digital aerial but I have the old type flying saucer roof aerial which is now better on digital reception in comparison to the old analogue signal. However, when out last week in Stourport it was difficult to receive a TV signal and the people who had the status 550 were also having difficulty in the fact that some couldn't even get a signal at all. Although they are actually classed as a directional aerial, for what they cost they seem no better than any other type.

We have it fitted on our van and we have been all directions of the UK with it and has always given good picture. Some areas it needs to be wound with the handle so that it is turned vertical.

I'm for them, only had a problem in a very remote site. I had the Status 330 ('flying saucer') and used a seperate external aerial, but changed it for the 530 for convenience (550's predecessor).
In conjunction with a decent signal strength meter (of which I have found those from Fringe to be amongst the best) you can get the thing aligned and set up in next-to-no time.

That's why I prefer the older type Status 330 (flying saucer design) omni-directional aerial as it requires no setting up at all. Just plug in the TV power lead and coax cable, switch on the power pack, tune in the telly and away you go. No outside setting up in the rain or having to use a meter to tune in, twiddling levers and knobs in cupboards. As I said in my first post that the latest Status 550 model was that useless in Stourport that all of the state of the art roof aerials were all pointing in different directions. I would have thought that at least one of them must have had a meter for setting the aerial up unless they all just eventually gave up trying.

I have had both and found the directional one the better of the two. My brother in law has an older Bailey Pagent with the saucer type and frequently has to use an external pole mounted ariel in remote locations to get the full amount of freeview channels without the signal braking up.
Just be aware that neither are perfect though. With regards to Southport, it is a strange site for tv rececption and the pitches that back onto the park can sometimes be impossible to get a signal when the leaves are on the trees while those on the pitches opposite you can usually get a signal.

We have never had much success with a status aerial and always use an external directional aerial.

As it happens I have one on ebay for sale with all fittings starting at £10 only.

I think Tango55 was referring to Stourport, a town on the river Severn not far from Kidderminster and about 10 miles north of Worcester.
