Hi

having just moved up from Tent to caravan and very excited I am. I am wanting to know what materail is used for the curtains. I love the original curtains that are in the caravan in which I think is a velvety type. however I want to change the colour. Any ideas on the name of the material.

or even draylon which is close to velour which is close to velvet.

 Checking the sizes in fashion catalogues as sometimes their little sizes are the window size of the caravan.

 Unless you have the ability to sew them yourself. Which I can do by hand:  but cutting them out with all these funny metric measurements baffles me.1717

I made the curtains for our caravan when we had one, I got the fabric from our local Dunelm. I even made tie backs and pelments.



It's a good idea to use a flame retardant fabric, not all curtain fabric is.

Sold the caravan not long after we'd restored it and went back to tents.

This is the same material used for our caravan curtains which has an appearance and feel of velvet which is actually called velour.

Where do you get the pop-on tape please?

My wife's on about making some new curtains ant this would save stripping the old stuff off the originals.

I remember a couple of years ago the wife bought heavy velour curtains from a charity shop and cut them up, then made new curtains for the van,saved a fortune.

If the original curtains are in good condition why not dye them. Did mine and they came out really well.

Bridgelayer - I got the pop-on tape from my local caravan centre shop but I beleive you can get it on e-bay as well.

When my now-ex and I got our caravan four years ago I absolutely hated the velour curtains as they looked so dreary and dated, so I went to Dunelm and bought a roll end of thick cotton curtain fabric in a nice sunny yellow and made new curtains for the van and awning, with a matching blind for the bathroom, door curtain, cushion covers and duvet cover, and re-covered all the pelmets and backrests. It really brightened the van up and looked so much better than the old fashioned velour.
