If you are electric hook up you don't have to have the gas fire on to use the blow air heating on it's own as you can just use it on the 240 mains supply. The problem is that the blow air will initially blow cold so you have to set the switch during the day to get the rear of the fire warm in order to blow warm air out in the evening.
