Hi I'm thinking about buying a Safefill cylinder. The initial cost is about £150 but the gas cost is less than 1/2, compared with Calorlite. I do plan on using a lot of gas.

See http://www.safefill.co.uk/ if you have not come across Safefill.

I know there are Safefill refill places around the UK, but they are not overly common.

1) Can anyone with a Safefill cyclinder let me know roughly what % of UK petrol stations with LPG have let them fill up. I've heard Morrisons are Ok about allowing this. Do you ask first or just fill up and be prepared to argue your case?

2) Also same question but for Europe especially France and Spain.

I understand from the Safefill website that refilling their cyclinder is legal and safe but that some petrol stations just ban the refilling of all loose cyclinder.

Thanks
Steve

I've looked but not taken the plunge yet.

IMO, try to fill up, they will just not switch the pump on if they don't like it, if you've already filled up, not a lot they can do, they cant take the gas back!!

Not sure what unit you have (tent, camper, caravan?)  but I have read on other forums that problems seem to arise,if you try to refill a "loose/free standing" cylinder and that those fixed into a gas locker don't usually have an issue.....

Also,I know you fill these Safefill bottles by connecting to them direct but if possible,it does also appear to be beneficial if a remote fill point is plumbed in...as this makes it seem more like a "proper installation" ,as oppossed to just someone filling up an ordinary "Calor" bottle.(...which is of cause dangerous,as it doesn't have an overfill valve).

We mananged to almost half our gas costs by switching from 6kg(£20?)to 13kg bottle(£25)..but they are very ch*ffin' heavy! 24

Try your local camping shops.
We fill ours up at our local caravan sales as they also sell cylinders.LPG is cheaper from these as this isnt intent for road use and is usually cheaper than petrol stations.
Look on safefills website as they have a map with retailers and filling stations.HERE
Personally i prefer the caravan sales place as a lot of petrol stations are not fully clued up on these bottles.
