you could do what HEJC suggests BUT use stretchy string, then when you measure it wrongly you could then buy a bigger van to match your awning? result! new bigger van and new awning seriously i have used the non stretchy string method and it does work, primitive though it seems. might be a good idea to use a tent peg to fasten the string into the ground at one end at the bottom of the awning rail top tip - IF you have space at home, buy some awning channel and fix it to the wall of the house, shed, garage etc. then when you have to put the awning away wet, you could always take it home and erect it at home to dry it out. i know you are supposed to be able to store wet awnings with no adverse effects, but i have never been convinced!
