Both, they are lighter than most crockery and they bounce well! I use them in the caravan, camping and at home and the only time I have broken a plate in about 30 years is at home when I dropped it onto a stone floor and it landed on its edge. They are also very easy to clean, oven proof and suitable for microwave.
