Just in case it helps anyone, I've purchased a few 43mm bulldog clips and I've split the 3m backing on the LED strips for the length of the clip and stuck them onto the side of the clip which allows me to space them every foot or so and have as much as a I like of the strip, pretty much anywhere thats small enough for the clip to fit onto (about 90mm wide). It's cheap, and its flexible, allowing me to clip it direct to the tent, the poles, a tree branch, etc.
I also use an inline dimmer which allows me to adjust the brightness, so I can retain quite a long strip in case its useful to also place outside the tent.
I run mine off a small home-made 12v solar array thats very portable (just in a plastic box with 2 small mobility 12v batteries!) that I can easily carry with me.
I'm quitew happy.
