Just bought a Thermarest Basecamp. Aside from being uncomfortable the smell was quite intolerable. Considering buying the Thermarest Dreamtime XL instead but before splashing out we would like to know if anyone else is familiar with the smell and can say whether it is the same with the Dreamtime and does it go?

Well we have have 2 of the "DreamTime" XL's bought new back in 2008, and I can't say that they give of any kind of odor at all.

We've had Basecamp SIMs and now have Luxury Map. No pongs noticed here, either.

To the OP: Did you buy new and from a reputable dealer?

Try leaving out to air in garden on a dry day. It worked for me with a memory foam mattress topper.

Yeah I have a memory foam pillow and it had a horrible stink. I took the cover off and washed that and then left the pillow to air for a few days. The smell soon wore off and it is fine now.

Hopefully your pong will go with a bit of airing.
