I've just fitted a Digi-View rear view camera to the back of my caravan. It was easy to fit, and it communicates really well with no interference.
However, it might be useful for reversing, or looking at horses' bottoms,but on the road the viewing experience is similar to Tony Hancock's during his aeroplane sketch!

Let me explain. The viewing angle is so wide that vehicles are seen as tiny specks in the distance which zoom into view and disappear alongside just as fast. The camera is mounted high up on the 'van, looking down.
Anyone else have similar experience and how did you improve matters?

I understood that they were only for reversing, as it is illegal to look at a screen when driving.

That type of fish eye camera is for, as you have bought it , helping you reverse carefully,
If I think about all the cars I know that have these cameras, they are fitted max 1m from the ground.
Think you might need to experiment with the location. But also the angle ..

You do need to be carefully looking at this while driving ( except for reversing ) Policemen I think like carging you and give you a few points.. You can't look at moving images ,, not sure how sat nav isn't a moving image but ...

I believe the ones fitted as standard.. ie commecial vehicles only operate when 'reverse is selected'.. as with audio and light warnings..

sooo, if you cannot use these whilst on the road, what about all these cars with multiple cameras, or trucks that use them instead of rear view mirrors (for obvious reasons).
the rangerover at least I know can use the camera views whilst travelling forwards.
or the BMW with the IR camera on the front for better "night vision"
I was under the impression things had changed/been clarified so you cannot watch moving video pictures (ie form dvd etc) but live navigation screens and vehicle cameras were permitted.
