I am looking for recommendations for an electric multi cooker to use whilst camping on EHU especially for fry ups but would want to cook other things on it too.

I have a round one with a glass lid, and I have found it completely useless. The base of the cooking area is flimsy, it has warped so it is no longer flat, it also has hot spots and then the thermostat has a habit of kicking in and reducing the heat way down.

As an experiment I have just used it for our tea. I did sausages, bacon and eggs. It took an hour (even the eggs took ten minutes) for the whole meal to be prepared...which makes a frying pan and gas cannister stove more appealing. But the benefits of having a proper, good quality multicooker would be that all fat from bacon etc doesn't splatter around the cooking area, and I could do fajitas and pancakes etc as well.

So I wonder could anyone recommend me a variable heat controlled multicooker with a good non stick coating and even heat distribution throughout the cooking surface. Many thanks in advance.

I have always liked the look of the Remoska electric cooker ever since Lakeland started to stock them a good few years back.

It looks very versatile. Check out Lakeland's offerings:

BTW, the Remoska does not have variable heat output.

I have a Remoska. I bought it with the specific idea of using it for camping and hopefully, it will get its first run out later this month. It's vety versatile. You use it like a normal oven. Chicken is beautiful in it. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. It would meet your needs I am sure.

I have a Prestige Multicooker and I love it. Use it so much and have cooked so many different things in it.

I do like the Remoska but for me space is of a premium and the long handle on the lid means I don't actually have anywhere to put it when removing the lid and stirring things etc when I'm camping, so that put me off and I went for the prestige.

Multicookers are an absolute boon and not just for camping, we use it so much at home as well. It is much more efficient that using the main cooker for a number of dishes.

The Prestige has four heat settings, very even heat distribution and superb non stick coating.

I only just posted about this being my new fave camping gadget on the 'Best Kit' thread a few minutes ago!

We have a Palson Grand Gourmet, and it's a good bit of kit, especially if you're cooking for a few people. The only drawback is it has to live on a shelf, as it's too big to fit into our kitchen cupboards!

Thanks for your replies. I'm not keen on the Remoska sorry, I'd prefer the heat from below not above so I can get my fried eggs how I like them. The Prestige Multicooker looks good but I think the price tag is a bit high at £50. I might go for the Judge multicooker or the Team international one. Has anyone any opinions about either or those?

I too have been looking at these and have seen the Habitat Multicooker on Amazon, which has good reviews and a good price. So am seriously thinking of adding this to our camping set up.

We bought one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUEST-500-WATT-240VOLT-PORTABLE-CAMPING-CARAVANING-DOMESTIC-HOT-PLATE-AND-GRILL-/280896722887?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Camping_CookingSupplies_ET&hash=item4166bfd7c7

(sorry hyperlink wont work)

We liked it as it is low watt and you can either use as griddle or take it off and just use as normal ring for saucepans etc.

I have an Andrew James one (Amazon) which I've used camping several times and is pretty good. And it's huge, so you should get everything for a cooked breakfast for a whole family in there!
