The first thing you really need to decide is how far from home do you want to travel?

The answer to that will determine how big a dish you will need.

UK only (except far north of Scotland) - approx. 40cm.

North of Scotland and as far south as the Dordogne in France - approx 65cm.

Pyrenees - approx 85cm - 1m.

For the UK only, the "Suitcase" kit will be fine but if you’re beginning to fancy the very south of France and beyond then I would recommend a better quality (more sensitive) receiver such as "Humax" (for Freesat).

$ky receivers tend to be notoriously deaf as they were intended for use in the UK only.

Note: The satellite footprint map on this web site is out of date. In Barcelona, with the new Astra 2F satellite you would need at least a 1m dish (not 74cm as shown) and then, only if you’re lucky!
