Hey,

Been camping a while. I have a couple of sleeping bags, a Eurohike xl mummy bag (3 season) and a Gelert xl sleeping pod (2 season)

Because I am awkward neither of these fit the bill. I like to sleep in weird positions - one leg up, one down, recovery position etc. I'm also 6ft 5 and 16 stone.

The Eurohike is long enough, warm enough (just about, had to wear thermals this weekend) but really restrictive meaning I didn't sleep very well this weekend.

The Sleeping pod is lovely and wide, just about long enough (just) but not very warm at all. This weekend is about the earliest we camp every year - and we do camp this weekend every year. It got down to about 4 degrees on Sat night so my sleeping pod would have been useless.

So...

Any recommendations for a new sleeping bag which will be long, wide and warm? Or do they do liners for the Sleeping pods? I can only see normal liners on Gelert's website (which would seemingly nullify the point of having a pod shaped sleeping bag if you then have a mummy shaped liner in it.

This might be worth a look....

"Fairly" wide, at 900mm x "Very Long" at 2300mm (to top of pillow hood)

A bit bulky, pack size wise, but fleece lined, (one layer is removable) and lovely and warm.
In the snow, I still slept in thin thermals, but at Easter, only just above zero at night, I was down to long sleeved footy shirt, shorts... and no socks!! :-)

At 6'6" and about 18 st I know the problems you have with sleeping bags.

We have 2 North Face 'Eigers' (if memory serves) which are what I would call 'old fashioned' sleeping bags (ie, rectangles not mummies)..... and you can zip them together to make a double - which is great - and are comfortable own to minus 5........... so great for the British Summer!

Costco sell an oversized bag which OH finds great. I'm not sure how much but probably less than £30. You need to be a member of Costco or find someone who is.

Thanks for replies, I'll have a look at the ones mentioned.

I definitely think an old school 'square' one will be the compromise between warmth and space.

What about the Gelert XL Muscovy 3 season pod?

I'm told its longer and warmer.
