I'm with you on this one Keith. Spent a small fortune on lighting,Gas,Elec,Bat,Wind-up's. Still not found the ultimate lamp.
Anybody got a link to the most comprehensive selection of lighting,I've trawled the web for hours on end and still can't find that sexiest, cleverest, neatest, coolest camping lamp.

We have two of these absolutely fantastic. You can hang them up like a light bulb or use them like a lamp...check out the customer photographs in this link.

The coleman northstar is the brightest light I have ever used, the coleman fuel model not the battery one.

Personally I like to keep flames and canvas as far away from each other as possible. We have a gas lamp for outside but never take it in the tent.

For me quality LED is the way to go. Lots of light, durable, little or no heat, mains or 12v.

Covered well in this thread

I have that, and would highly recommend it.
3 x D batteries
Two brightness settings, but as you can take off the lens cover, this effectively gives you four settings.
More than adequate to read by.

There's a re-branded version at Maplins, for £15, I believe, in green.

There's also a bigger, bulkier, "better", more expensive version Here, and elsewhere, which takes 6 x D batteries, but is brighter still, and has remote control. Not tried it, but hear good things about it!

Our best buy has to be our bright white led fairy lights that we hang round the inside if the tent using the velcrovstraps provided. Gives off great light and looks amazing!!!

Hi Keith1987,you don't say if you are going to have EHU or not.Non EHU,we have Tilley parraffin pressure lamps,or camping gaz lanterns, both give off good light, and a bonus of a small amount of heat.EHU,we have a good old energy saviving light bulb,as the do not burn as hot as standard light bulbs.17

I have tried wind up lanterns, along with torches, and headlights but have not been very impressed with any of them, unless being used to light the way to the loo,or being used when settling down for the night, they are handy to have at the side of the bed17. This is my personal opinion, and I know others will disagree.

I have considered buyind a Petromax lamp with shade, but Ma would kill me.17
