Hi
Can anyone recommend an alternative to the gelert xl pod. I like the size but it doesnt perform well in cold weather. Last friday night I was freezing. I had the vango nitestar sq450 before the pod but didnt get on with it.
Blankets help but I am running out of space in the car for extra bedding!
Thanks
Karen
i use a combat 95 ex army sleeping bag and added a down sleeping bag that i got in a millets closing down sale. I thought nothing would match my army bag but I gotta say the down 500 out of millets was 1st class
If cost is not a problem, then I would go for a carp fishing style bag. They are expensive when compared to most normal bags, but they will keep you warm and are wider, which is why I assume you chose a pod style bag.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.I am prepared to pay a bit more for quality but space in the car is an issue so extra blanket isnt practical and I am assuming fishing bags are larger as well unless you can advise otherwise raf48?
Otherwise something 100cm plus wide would suit, any ideas?
Hubby has a vango bag that is 100 wide and is equivalentish to a 450 (could never work out exactly what it is but thick and warm) can't remember what it is called but if you look at the vango site I am sure they have one
What about wearing an extra layer or thermal jim jams? We have the sleeping pods and I love being able to stretch and turn over and wriggle. I have thought about making a liner for it but I imagine it would get tangled.
If an extra blanket is a problem, then I would think any decent bag will be too bulky. And yes a carp bag will be bulky in comparison. My own thoughts are that mummy bags which are always the best (and by this I mean if you look at the top of the range serious cold weather bags)are only tapered to reduce the amount of filling thus reducing bulk and extra weight, and not because of having less space to heat. (Only my thoughts though)
