Hi All. I have just bought a trailer and had a tow bar fitted. Also fitted security in my garage so it cannot be stolen. Is there something I can fit to the tow bar and trailer coupler to avoid it being stolen when we are parked at the services etc

Many thanks
Tony

I just put a heavy chain & padlock through the trailer drawbar and through the towbar. Not too tight in case I forget to remove it and it impedes turning.

No doubt the perps could grind it off but it is a deterrent. Hopefully they will move on & steal something else.

We always took it in turn at the services while one stayed at the car with the trailer. Mind you we only had a tarp to cover it so they didn't have to steal the trailer, just take the cover of!!!!

I agree with "Issym" I use a trailer that does not have a lockable cover so on my long drives to Cornwall when we stop, either me or the OH stays with the car, I'd be gutted to loose all my kit while in the services !!!

Yep, same here. We take it in turns to go into the services so as the car/trailer is never left alone. Ours only has a rubberised fabric type cover so all they would need to do is unhook the elastic.

I'm rarely on my own when I have the trailer on so there is usually someone in the car, but if I do have to leave it for a toilet break I do the same as millermicm - I use a motor cycle security chain. I bought it from aldi a couple of years ago and I would defy any bugger to get through it without industrial equipment!!!

They could of course just take the cover off but I tend not to keep any high value stuff in the trailer.

I changed my hitch to an Alko with their hitchlock cover to go over it .... all pretty secure.
But, as suggested above ... does your hitch not allow for a barrel lock to be inserted?
On the continent it is always recommended that someone stays in the vehicle for all service station stops ... or, keep your set up in constant view.
Keep a camera handy for any suspicious activity ... often works as a deterrent.
